Betting on players

On GammonGame you can bet on a player who may win the game in your opinion. If the player that you choose wins, you'll receive a certain part of the prize. The prize consists of total stakes on a loser and divided between all the players who bet on a winner. Your part of the prize depends on the amount of your bet and the time when you make a bet. When the game is finished, the total number of the players' moves is calculated and the game is divided into 3 parts.

You can see the principle of the game division and stake involvement in the prize distribution in the table below:

Parts of the game % of the total moves in the game % of the stake involved in the prize distribution
1 1-40% 100%
2 41-80% 70%
3 81-100% 20%

Thus, as you can see, the earlier and bigger stake wins more money.

You can make bets in the games which are played for money and all the tournaments. When you make a bet in a match it's placed on a winner of the entire match, not a single round.
You cannot cancel or change a bet once the bet has been placed.

If you want to make a bet on a specific player, click Bet button below the player's name.
You will see the pop-up window where you could choose how much money to place on this player. The amount of a bet is limited by your GBP balance and can't exceed 100 GBP.

You could make bets several times during the game. Please note that in the third part of the game the amount of a new stake can't exceed half of the total stakes which were made before.
Also you could place bets on both players if you wish.

You can make bets up to the moment when all the checkers of one of the players appear in the player's home.

1. Match Play Fees

A separate fee for playing a match will be deducted from each player at the start of the match. Players pay 10% in matches up to 10GBP, 6% in matches 10GBP, 5% in other stakes. The chart below shows the prize money and match fees for different stakes.

Stake per player Match Fee per Player
under £10 10%
£10.00 6%
higher £10.00 5%

Example: Joe and Bill play a match with stake per player of 1GBP. The 1GBP for the stake and 0.1GBP (10%) fee was deducted from their accounts at the start of the match (1.1GBP total). Bill wins. Therefore 1.9GBP (1GBP stake plus 0.9GBP winnings) will be added to Bill's balance and Joe loose his 1.1GBP stake.

2. Money Play Fees

A fee of 5% will be deducted from stake of each player at the end of money play, and the balance will be paid to the winner.

Example: Joe and Bill play a game with stake per player of 1GBP. Bill wins 1:0. The fee of 5% (0.05GBP) from each stake is paid by the loser. Therefore 0.9GBP will be added to Bill's balance and 1GBP will be deducted from Joe's balance.

3. Tournaments Fees

In general cases a separate fee of 10% for registration will be deducted from each player when they register for a tournament. But for some tournaments entry fee can be different. You may see entry fee for each tournament nearby the tournament and in the pop-up window when you try to sign.

Example: nearby following tournament you can see fee of 0.2GBP for stake of 2GBP

And the same fee you can see in the pop-up window which appears when you try to sign:

4. Sit&Go tournaments Fees

The Sit&Go tournaments have the same rules as common tournaments with only 2 differences:
1) The tournament starts as soon as the necessary number of players is reached;
2) The fee for Sit&Go tournament on GammonGame usually are 5%, but can be changed. You can see details in the tournament description.

The tournament commences at the pre-announced start-time. The dice will roll and the clock of the player who wins the opening roll will start at this time.

In each tournament the prize money is made up of the total stake money. The prize money will be divided between the number of winning players according to the prize money schedule for each event. All promotional payments will be added to the prize money.

Types of games

There are four different ways of playing backgammon on this site:

(1) Money Play:
You may play money games against another player using the normal rules of backgammon, modified as described below. After each game the losing player will simply lose an amount corresponding to the number of points lost. A fee of 5% will be deducted from this sum and the balance credited to the winning player.

To play money games you may either join an existing table or create your own. When you create a table you will be given a number of options:

Automatic Double (Auto):
Selecting this option will automatically increase the cube level to 2 when both players roll the same number at the start of a game. The cube remains centred and is still available for use by either player. Automatic doubles are limited to one per game and there are no carry-overs.

Jacoby:
Under this rule a gammon or backgammon will not double or triple the number of points won or lost unless the cube has been turned by either player during that game. Automatic doubles (see above) do not activate gammons or backgammons.

Beaver:
This option allows a player, in the process of accepting a double, to increase the cube value to the next higherlevel. The player who originally doubled then has the option of declining the beaver and resigning the game at the cube value prior to the beaver. If the beaver is accepted the player who beavers retains ownership of the cube.

Stake:
You may play for a stake of between £0.10 and £10.00 per point. Any player wishing to play for stakes higher than £10.00 per point should contact our Customer Service Team with a view to completing an identification process and becoming a VIP player.

Max Loss Limit:
If you wish you may pre-set a maximum amount that you can lose before you commence play. If you lose a game which would result in your cumulative loss for the session to equal or exceed this limit, the session will end. The amount you actually lose in that game will be limited according to your Max Loss Limit for the session. If you do not select a Max Loss Limit, a default setting of six times your stake will apply.

(2) Matches:
You may play a match against another player to an agreed number of points. The player who obtains the agreed number of points first will win the match. The winner then wins the prize money. If the match is part of a tournament, the player will win the right to proceed in the tournament. It is not possible to double your opponent if the existing cube value would already win the match for you because points won over and above the number required to win the match are irrelevant.

(3) Sit and Go:
These are mini-tournaments with four or eight players which commence as soon as the last place has been filled. The prize money is the total of the stake money minus 5% and the winner takes all. The rules are otherwise the same as for tournaments.

(4) Tournaments: You can join knock-out tournaments which commence at advertised times. You play according to the normal rules of backgammon in each match, and the winner of each match proceeds to the next round. The loser is eliminated and is not able to play in any further matches in the tournament. In each tournament the prize money consists of the total of all the participating players' stake money. The prize money will be divided according to the prize structur of the tournament.

Abandoned matches

A match may be interrupted due to technical problems.

Technical problems with Gammongame backgammon:
If these technical problems are caused by Gammongame`s backgammon server or Internet connection, the match will be deleted, and the players will receive a refund of their stake.

Technical problems with the individual player:
If the technical problems are caused by a player`s computer or internet connection, the match will not be deleted, and no stakes will be refunded. i.e., if the problems that prevent the player from finishing the match arise from his computer, his countdown clock will eventually run out and his opponent will win the match.
